NEDCare is a community-led social care charity reducing rural isolation and enabling people to live independently and safely in their own homes across North East Dartmoor. We were founded in 2017 in response to gaps in rural care provision. We support people in Moretonhampstead, Chagford and surrounding parishes where accessing support can be particularly challenging. We provide person-centred care that is informed by the client and those who know them best. We listen to our clients and record their preferences carefully in a care plan so that all carers understand these before they visit. Care plans are written WITH our clients, not for them. From general help around the home to more complex personal care as well as sensitive support at the end of life stage, we provide support for a variety of needs. Our team work closely with our clients, each other and with other professionals to ensure the people we support receive holistic, caring and individualised support. Our services extend beyond practical care, also offering companionship. We keep people connected to their community, reducing hospital admissions. We work closely with NHS community nursing teams, the local authority and voluntary organisations. As a charity and Real Living Wage employer, we put people before profit, including our carers. Offering local employment, flexible working and funded training means we achieve carer retention far above industry averages. This is vital rurally, where continuity of care and local knowledge can make a profound difference to people’s wellbeing. NEDCare also works to increase community engagement and strengthen local support networks, raising awareness of available services and reducing stigma around ageing and care.
